What is therapeutic horticulture?
Therapeutic horticulture is a purposeful process in which people engage in plant-based activities, guided by a trained professional, to improve their well-being. The focus is on using active participation in gardening and nature-related tasks to support physical, cognitive, social, emotional and psychological, and spiritual health. Therapeutic horticulture is an active and experiential modality, one which makes space for people to subtly work towards their personal goals by working with and within nature.
Unlike formal horticultural therapy, therapeutic horticulture may not be part of a structured treatment plan.
